About AIS

Since the IMO SOLAS AIS mandate in 2002, AIS has grown to be the technology of choice for maritime safety and security. AIS is an international technology standard which is controlled and governed by a series of international technical committees operating under the auspices of the IMO.

Today there are multiple AIS standards, each of which has been carefully created to ensure complete interoperability. AIS uses a complex time slot system to ensure that messages from different devices are controlled and are always delivered. Although complex and difficult to truly meet the required standards, the AIS operating system has proven itself to be reliable in the field.
